Defining Who You Are

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

Ever noticed how many people are ‘looking for themselves?” Fact is, most people never find themselves. Usually, it’s because they are looking in the wrong places. For the wrong reasons. We all have a set of values, those intrinsic concepts which ultimately define who we are and for what we live. How we choose those values, determines our journey through life and our eternal destiny.

Pause, take a deep breath, and think about what defines you. What do you value? How do you decide what you will value? How do you determine the course of action for the decisions which life often forces upon us? If you wait until you are faced with a crucial life choice before deciding what you really value, it might be too late.

You are not perfect. None of us are. Yes, none of us. Therefore, we make mistakes, we do stupid, unconscious able things, and then wonder why we are in a mess. Reality smacks us in the face with the fact, we are sinners. Feeble, frail and faulty. We cannot do it on our own. We need help. Help begins with Jesus Christ. He is the only solution for a broken, sinful soul. He alone possesses the power to take us from who we are and where we were to a brand new life.

Life in Christ. He didn’t come to make us better. He came to make us new! He came to give us life. Not just a ho-hum, dreary and dismal existence, but an ‘abundant life!” A life which exceeds all human expectations. Who would reject a life promising to deliver more than we ever anticipated? Life, blessed beyond measure is what Jesus promises. Life embracing His values, life engaging His world, life enriching the lives of others. Truly, we find exactly what we seek, and we seek what we value. Where are your values based?

The following list contains the seven defining values by which I choose to live. We each have values. Failing to define them, in no way means you don’t have them. Why do you live? For whom do you live? You are living your answer!!

Speak Truth, Live Pure, Share Love, Stand with Honor, Protect the Weak, Right Wrong, Follow the King

Peace, roy

Through the Eyes of Jesus

I love to see people who love others like Jesus did. Didn't matter where you came from, how long you've been gone, how much baggage you carried, or how much help you needed.  Jesus loved and loves you. He viewed everyone he met as a future, if not already a follower.

I believe Jesus had an affectionate smile, immediately inviting you into a conversation with someone who would really listen. Someone who cared with the kind of rare empathy which transcended normal humanity. People who met Jesus were profoundly impacted.

Jesus had a passion for the forgotten, the folks who no one else wanted. The people who would make most 'religious' people nervous and uncomfortable. His compassion wasn't a social position. it was a deep conviction people mattered. Jesus was going to love you, it is who he was and is.

If you come from a difficult and troubled past, you were welcomed to join him.  He didn't spend timne focused on the past, but today and tomorrow. He saw the present in light of the future. He wasn't surprised by people's shattered lives. But He didn't look the other way either.

This is who Jesus was, and is.  This is who I want to be.

As always, it's your choice. Choose wisely.
